Licenced Lay Minister (Reader)

Maureen Dobson B.A.

Maureen came to live in Great Shelford from Suffolk in 1993.  Previously she had been much involved there in the development of the hospice moment.  She was licensed as a Lay Reader in 1988, serving first in the diocese of St, Edmundsbury & Ipswich, then on the lay chaplaincy team at Addenbrooke’s and coming to St. Mary’s in 2003.  She has quite a lot of experience of parish life, being the widow, daughter-in-law (twice) and mother of clergy.

Churchwarden

Joanne Staines

Joanne moved to Great Shelford in 2001 and joined St Mary’s not long afterwards. From about 2006 Joanne helped run the Sunday Club at the church and is still a keen supporter of children’s worship. Joanne has been a Girlguiding member since childhood and currently runs a Rainbows Unit and a Guide Unit in Trumpington, and is a co-District Commissioner.

Joanne originally studied genetics, and for many years was a Clinical Scientist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, but is now embracing her creative and scientific side as a Science Communicator at Cambridge Science Centre, where much of her time is spent visiting schools and community groups in areas where science provision is not prioritised!

Joanne became Churchwarden of St Mary’s, with Simon White, in 2021 and is looking forward to the challenges.

In her spare time Joanne enjoys crafts, theatre and archery.
