St Mary the Virgin

Are you new to the church or the area? If so, you are very welcome!  Do pay us a visit.
We are a friendly church in the village of Gt Shelford in Cambridge. Why not join us at one of our services?
We are a group of ordinary people who believe that church is a great place to make friends and experience God together. We are a family who believe that church should not only be great fun but also a place where lives are radically transformed.
We are seeking to make the church a place to drop into for solace and space during the week. Do come in and look around at the historical features of the building, some dating from Saxon times. We have historic information to read, and photographs of the church interior to view.
There is an area where children can come and read some books, a space to light a candle and leave a prayer request. There are books on how to pray. There is also a book stall where people can bring books and buy books at a small charge or donation.

A news update on the FUNDING CRISIS for the Arthur Rank HOSPICE

It was terrible news that many hospices are now experiencing a funding crisis. Hospices in our region include Arthur Rank, Milton, Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall and Garden Hall. It appears Arthur Rank would be significantly affected, having to close 9 of their 21 Inpatient Unit beds if the cuts went ahead.

There has been overwhelming public support, for Arthur Rank including 16,000+ signatures on the petition, handed in to Number 10, along with an impressive fundraising campaign run by the Hospice that has secured funding for the nine beds under threat of closure. Thanks to generous public donations, the Arthur Rank Hospice now has a 12 month reprieve and can maintain full capacity.

This 12 month period must be used to negotiate and come to an agreement between the Integrated Care Board and the Arthur Rank Hospice on longer-term funding. The goal for everyone is to ensure that fewer people die in a hospital setting, and Arthur Rank Hospice is a vital partner in achieving that goal.
