Giving

How You Can Donate and Help Our Church.

St Mary’s church is a place of peace, worship and celebration for everyone in Great Shelford, not only those who regularly attend services. As such we would like to reach out to the wider community to ask for help to maintain the church and ministry here.

We are very grateful for all donations, large or small. Each donation makes a difference and can help put our Parish Church on a sustainable footing for the future.

If you are a UK tax payer, the church will benefit greatly if you Gift Aid your donation. It gives us an extra 25p for each £1 you donate at no extra cost to yourself. Some of the giving methods below include the option to Gift Aid automatically if you are eligible.

There are a variety of ways you can give:

  • You can make a one-off donation by Debit or Credit card. The option to Gift Aid is included automatically.
  • Please consider giving regularly through the Parish Giving Scheme. The option to Gift Aid is included automatically.
  • By direct bank transfer or regular standing order. Please contact the Treasurer for details and a Gift Aid form if you are eligible.

Thank you for your support.

Friends of St Mary's Church

The Friends of Great Shelford Parish Church was founded in 1996 to help maintain and improve the church's fabric, the churchyard and the general amenities of the church for the benefit of the whole community.  Members contribute to those aims through their subscriptions, their donations and by supporting our fund-raising events.

The Friends work closely with the Parochial Church Council but are an independent Charity separately registered with the Charity Commission.  The Incumbent, the Wardens and a representative of the Parish Council all serve as ex-officio Trustees and a further 8 Trustees are elected by members.  As an independent Charity the Friends are able to focus on supporting projects that reflect their own community-orientated objectives.  The aim is to encourage an involvement by all who treasure the church building as part of their heritage and want to see it conserved for their own and future generations.

Recent projects that the Friends have supported include the installation of a new sound system and improvements to the church lighting.  The Friends have also contributed each year to the cost of insuring the church.  Future spending will continue to reflect the Friends' commitment to enabling the church to be accessible and welcoming to all, whilst retaining its historical characteristics.

Being a Friend costs just £5 for a year's subscription.  Members are also encouraged to add a donation to their subscription and these annual donations form an important part of the Friends’ total income.  New members are always welcome.   Application forms can be found at the back of the church or simply contact one of us for help.
