Julie's Jottings for March

Lent allows us to look inward at how we are developing character and spiritual habits.  Habits are those daily activities which move us incrementally to a better place.  Lent allows us to recommit ourselves to those healthy options that busy-ness of life can take from us.  It encourages us to take time to breathe more slowly, to pray or contemplate each day, to reflect on the negative loops we slip into and choose our responses to things that happen to us, in more Christ-like ways.   There are opportunities in Lent to do this more, particularly through the Holy Week Reflections, or by looking at the  Stations of the Cross which are displayed on the pillars of the Church during Lent, or at the Service of the Stations of Cross on Good Friday when music and mediation moves us. All this can make us more curious about ourselves, our world and God.
